Hongkong, October 8th, 1897.
A sum of $1000 to be spent by the club upon improvements within twelve months from the date of Lease.
The rights of the Govt. & the Telephone Company to obtain access to & repair their respective cables and Land lines to be reserved.
Should the Govt. desire to renew the Lease - it shall pay any Compensation to them for being displaced.
The right of the Govt. to re-enter upon unoccupied land to be reserved.
The Land in the west of the area to be reserved.

I have the honour to acknowledge receipt of your letter of 8th instant, covering copy of a despatch from the Colonial Office, informing me that by the gracious pleasure of Her Majesty the Queen permission has been granted to this Club to be styled "The Royal Hongkong Golf Club", an honor which is most highly esteemed by the members.
I am to add, by desire of the Committee, the expression of their keen appreciation of the very personal concern and trouble taken in obtaining the Royal assent by His Excellency the Governor, who in matters of sport in this Colony has always evinced the liveliest interest and warmest regard.
